Talitha Kum Kenya Empowers 30 Survivors of Human Trafficking Through Business Training
14 October 2026
Talitha Kum Kenya has empowered 30 survivors of human trafficking through a three day Survivors’ Business Training held from 9th to 11th October, 2026 at Madonna Immacolata Centre. The training aimed to strengthen participants’ business knowledge and equip them with practical skills to support their journey towards economic independence and sustainable livelihoods. Held under the theme, My Skills, My Strength, My Freedom, the training reflects Talitha Kum Kenya’s commitment to promoting human dignity and supporting survivors as they rebuild their lives with hope, confidence and renewed opportunities. The main training sessions took place on 11th October, 2026 and covered essential areas of small business management. Facilitated by Sr. Leonidah Shimanyula, the sessions focused on four key topics: business planning and goal setting, pricing and costing, bookkeeping and record keeping, savings and customer care.
Through these sessions, participants were introduced to practical knowledge relevant to planning their businesses, understanding costs, managing financial records, developing saving habits and building positive relationships with customers. These skills are important foundations for individuals seeking to establish or strengthen their own income-generating activities. The programme also included group discussions and feedback sessions, providing participants with opportunities to engage with the topics and reflect on their application in business settings. Human trafficking can disrupt livelihoods, separate individuals from support systems and expose them to exploitation. Supporting survivors therefore requires not only protection and care but also opportunities to develop skills and pursue sustainable economic activities. By equipping 30 survivors with practical business knowledge, Talitha Kum Kenya continues to advance its commitment to supporting survivors beyond immediate assistance. Economic empowerment can help create pathways towards greater self-reliance and provide opportunities for survivors to pursue their goals with dignity.
The training concluded on 11th October,2026 with a closing prayer and departure, marking the end of three days dedicated to learning, reflection and preparation for future opportunities. The Survivors’ Business Training is a reminder that survivors deserve opportunities to rebuild their lives, develop their talents and participate meaningfully in their communities. Talitha Kum Kenya remains committed to ending human trafficking through awareness, prevention, protection, partnership and prayer. Through continued collaboration and survivor-centred initiatives, the organisation seeks to promote a society where every person’s dignity is respected and every survivor has an opportunity to thrive.
Together, we can support survivors in building dignified and sustainable futures.
